The History of the Pottery Studio |
||
| The Pottery Studio first opened in 1997. It was converted from an empty cow shed. 'It was hard work' to make the changes we needed but we all enjoyed working together. 'We painted the walls white', and made a shop area. We had to buy the things we needed. 'After 5 months the kiln arrived, a big tractor came in through the shop door to bring it in.' The people at the farm helped us a lot. We opened the shop for Easter 1998 and started to sell our pottery in the shop. 'We learned how to slipcast pottery, paint and glaze it and how to pack the kiln. We helped to sell the pots in the shop.' | ||

'We have a slipcasting bench and kilns'. More students have come here since 1997. 'We explain to customers what we do when we are at work' 'We are happy and well mannered, we give you a friendly welcome'. 'Children come to paint a pot, sometimes we have large parties of people.' We sell seasonal gifts, you can look round, buy pots and place orders. 'Sometimes the Mayor comes'. |

Fundraising-Friendship Appeal
We would like to say a big “thank you” to everyone involved in raising money for our new extension. We will be able to offer more people the opportunity to gain experience in a realistic work environment which can lead to employment in the local community. We will be able to improve our existing resources and facilities to enable us to provide more training facilities. In the last 4 years we have raised £50,000 and we have enough money to start the building project in Spring 2005. If you could help in any way please contact Jayne Frodsham, Pottery Manager, on 01253 772664, or if you would like to make a donation to the 'Friendship Appeal' Autism Initiatives our address is: The Pottery Studio With your help this much needed facility will be available to others. |
